For ePrescribing you need to be registered with both eRx AND with the Services Australia Healthcare Identifiers Service (HI Service).  The HI Service is also required for My Health Record and registration process for My Health Record and the HI Service are one and the same so generally you get My Health Record as well even if you do not use it.  Click here for more information about registering for eRx or the Healthcare Identifiers Service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I do if patients are not receiving their eScript tokens via SMS?
A:  If patients are reporting that the eScript tokens you sent them via eRx’s SMS system have not been received, then you could utilise your own MessageMedia SMS account to resend the token. This action does consume your MessageMedia account credit, however, this alternative transmission route may prove helpful during eRx SMS outages to ensure patients receive their eScript tokens. Using MessageMedia to send an eScript token is easily done as shown here. If you don’t have this option enabled you can call S4S Support for assistance.

Q:  When I log into Audit4 and select a different location, I cannot ePrescribe – why?
A:   Each location you want to ePrescribe from, needs to be registered with eRx.  S4S Support will be notified that you have registered for this other location and the associated “Entity ID” that eRx provides to S4S will be entered into Audit4 for you and this will allow you to ePrescribe from that location when you login to Audit4.  Best to get your Practice Manager to register all your locations via the eRx Script exchange website.

Q: What does ePrescribing cost?
A:   S4S are not charging any fees to help setup ePrescribing in Audit4.   There are no charges when sending an ePrescription via email.
Tokens sent via SMS to a patient’s mobile phone using the eRx SMS option are free – the Federal Government is picking up these costs. You may optionally send using your own local MessageMedia SMS service (typically used for Appointments and SMS Tasks) but these would incur a fee per SMS. However, these costs may be justified if eRx SMS messages are experiencing delivery delays and you want to be sure the patient has the eScript Token before leaving the consultation to avoid disruptive call backs from patients. To setup the option to send ePrescribing SMS messages via MessageMedia click here.

Q: Does ePrescribing via email use my email address?
A: No. The ePrescribing system uses its own email system to send the script token to the patient’s email address. You do not need to have any email address or email program when using the ePrescribing email option.

Q: Do many pharmacies accept ePrescriptions?
A:  As at Aug 2021, the eRx website stated:
“More than 90% of Australian pharmacies are registered with eRx Script Exchange …”  Our own checks have confirmed that all the major national pharmacy chains have statements on their websites indicating that all their stores can accept an electronic script. Some small independent pharmacies may not be able to accept an electronic script at this stage so for patients that have limited options (e.g. patients in a small rural town/area) or patients that want to use a particular pharmacy only, you may need to check with the pharmacy or resort to a printed script.

Q: How can an Audit4 user (e.g. front desk staff) view Script History details?
A: View the following PDF for instructions: Audit4 – ViewingMedicationPrint-SendHistory.pdf

My Script List is available to any Audit4 user with eRx and Audit4 v22.1.0 or above.  The following PDF document provides a quick single page set of instructions.

PIT files are not used very often anymore and Audit4 will normally translate the content to be viewable natively in Audit4, but if you have received and imported them manually, you may need to associate the PIT file type to notepad to be able to view the file. This is a Microsoft Windows setting so just needs to be done once on each computer you use.
